Most other word games like Scrabble are ruined by allowing obsolete / foreign / abbreviated words. Native english speakers don't use these words outside of word games. But if you know them for word games, you just win. Examples:
Everyone knows them but they aren't words: FBI, RBI, ER. They would be fun to use, but if they were allowed you could just play any 3 letters because almost every combination of 3 letters is an abbreviation for something.
β No names of places: ENGLAND, SOVIET, NILE.
β No names of people: PLATO, MARY, TURK.
β No names of products: PEPSI, GOOGLE, BANDAID.
Proper names of plants and animals are allowed to be lower case:

A foreign word can be included if people who only speak english usually know it, and will readily say it while not pretending to be a foreigner or referring to a foreign language/country for effect.

Only very common foreign foods are allowed. If every foreign food was a word, the game would have millions of words.
